Morey Saint-Denis 1er Cru Aux Chéseaux Arlaud 2012
The wine
Morey Premier Cru Aux Cheseaux is produced from a parcel of 71 ares lying to the north of Morey Saint-Denis, next to the Charmes-Chambertin appellation. The vines were planted in 1980. Grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts only. Barrel élevage, in oak, lasts between 14 and 18 months with 25 to 30% new wood. This cuvée releases aromas of dark fruit (blackcurrant, blueberry) and cherry. On the palate, it is flavoursome and rich with an excellent tannic structure. This wine was clearly designed to accompany strongly flavoured meats (red meat and furred and feathered game).
About the Producer Arlaud
The origins of Domaine Arlaud date back to World War II when Joseph Arlaud, from the Ardėche, met and married a lady from Bourgogne, Renée Amiot, whose family owned a vineyard. The couple developed and expanded the domaine. In 1982, their son, Hervé Arlaud took over and enlarged the domaine further, while developing bottle sales. Today, the third generation (Bertille, Cyprien and Romain) manage the operation and do very high quality work. The 15 hectare vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic and includes the very fine terroirs of Bonnes-Mares, Charmes-Chambertin and also Clos de la Roche. The vines and soil are well worked (ploughed by horses) and the élevage is increasingly controlled, producing magnificent, very pure wine with remarkable finesse. This area is widely acclaimed by critics and loved by fans
