Barolo DOCG Annunziata Riserva Lorenzo Accomasso 2011
The wine
This cuvée is made from the Barolo appellation’s classic varietal, Nebbiolo d’Alba. It is an Italian wine from domain Lorenzo Accomasso in La Morra, Piedmont, where the terroir is rich in clay. The parcel used for this cuvée covers half a hectare of vines planted in 1960. Work in the vineyard is traditional and by hand, and the grapes are vinified with little intervention. This means only indigenous yeasts enact fermentation and sulphur is added in homeopathic doses. Only 2,400 bottles of the Annunziata cuvée are made per year. In the glass it has a deep, intense colour, announcing a nose carried by aromas of red and black fruits. Ageing it for a while will allow this wine to gain in complexity with hints of dried flowers, earth and leather. It has enjoyable length that makes it ideal for pairing with flavourful dishes. Serve it at an ambient temperature alongside duck with potatoes or wild boar.
