Saint-Aubin Le Ban Catherine et Dominique Derain 2011
The wine
A true icon of natural winemaking in Burgundy, domain Derain produces pure wines that are bursting with energy. The Saint-Aubin Le Ban is produced from vines of Pinot Noir planted in the 1920s on east-facing slopes on clay-limestone soils. It’s one of the first parcels bought at auction by Catherine and Dominique Derain in 1989. At this estate, the harvest are done with small boxes and the grapes don’t come into contact with any sulphur. Elevage lasts between 12 and 18 months (depending on the vintage) in wooden vats. On the nose, the wine offers aromas of ripe red fruits. On the palate, it delivers beautiful freshness and a base of spices. This crunchy and juicy wine is eminently drinkable. We recommend decanting it an hour before serving so as to enjoy its full expression.
About the Producer Catherine et Dominique Derain
Dominique Derain, the grandson of a vine-grower, and his wife Catherine manage a 5.5 hectare vineyard in Saint-Aubin. He is one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Burgundy - his domaine has been certified since the first harvest in 1989. His wines assert a strong personality, originality and a rare expression of his terroirs.
