Savennières Château de Chamboureau 1985
The wine
The Chenin grapes from which this cuvée is produced come from vines grown on schist-covered slopes. Harvested by hand in successive sorting passes, it is fermented at low temperatures with native yeasts in order to preserve the freshness of its aromas. After a one-year élevage in new barrique barrels (20%) and on fine lees in vats for six months, the wine reveals a pale colour which presages an aromatic bouquet of white flowers, quince and citrus. Its fresh, lively palate is enhanced by notes of ripe fruit.
About the Producer Château de Chamboureau
For the Savennières appellation, Château de Chamboureau is a historic domaine since it was founded over 400 years ago. In 2007, this 18 hectare vineyard was bought by a local businessman, Philip Fournier. Together with Domaine Jo Pithon, it is part of Domaine FL. Comprising several really wonderful parcels on fully south-facing hillside slopes, the vineyard is in part farmed organically.
