Lot presentation

Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Boyer-Martenot 2011

The wine

Nestling at the heart of the beautiful Meursault Premier Cru slopes, the Les Genévriers climat owes its name to the juniper bushes that once flourished in this area. The fragrant aromas of these berries are actually obvious when tasting this Premier Cru. The Chardonnay vines, climbing on mostly limestone soils, are harvested entirely by hand. Thanks to meticulous selection, only healthy, mature grapes are kept and vinified according to traditional methods. The wines are then aged in oak casks for several months before being bottled.
The golden colour graced by subtle green tints reveals an intoxicating nose combining notes of rose, apricot and tangerine. The delicate and silky mouthfeel reveals uncomparable flavours of honey and hazelnut leading to a fresh and fragrant finish. This superb Chardonnay can easily be cellared for around fifteen years to reach its full potential.

About the Producer Boyer-Martenot

Domaine Boyer-Martenot has now been preserving and passing on traditional family expertise, combined with great respect for the environment for four generations. André Boyer took over the family vineyards from his mother Lucie after World War II. The vineyard rapidly expanded as he married Juliette Devèze, a native of Puligny-Montrachet, in 1945. In 1976, their son Yves took over, and in turn married Marie Cécile Martenot, daughter of a Meursault-based winemaker. Today, their son Vincent tends the ten hectares of vines in the emblematic communes of Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Auxey Duresses and Pommard. The estate grew considerably between 1997 and 2007, with the acquisition of new plots in some of the region’s finest appellations. The estate adopts sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture and vinification methods in both the vineyard and the winery, closely resembling the organic label (which it does not claim), to produce premium quality wines.
