Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champgains Michel Niellon (Domaine) 2011
The wine
This small, 6-hectare parcel of land is a masterclass in how to craft silky wines. The domain was created in 1960 by Léon Niellon who dedicated his life to the precision of his work. We find that same precision in the wine itself. The vineyard is cultivated sustainably, and the harvests are completed by hand to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The wine is matured in oak casks for a duration that can vary depending on the vintage. After a few years, this wine takes on a golden hue. Its nose is dominated by notes of acacia and honey, and its palate is beautifully rich and ample. It won’t need to age for very long to reveal its potential, four or five years in the cellar should do it.
About the Producer Michel Niellon
Domaine Michel Niellon is spread over 7.5 hectares, planted with 2/3 Chardonnay and the rest in Pinot Noir, with very old vines with low yields. The wines of the domaine are of fine quality with exceptional material, and a honeydew richness. This small domaine of Burgundy is quite famous and its bottles are becoming rare on the market.
