Information
Château Maucaillou owes its name to the cadastral description of the land on which it was built in 1875. The vineyard is one of the oldest terroirs in the Médoc. It has a superb position between Margaux and Saint Julien, in the commune of Moulis, in the exact geographic centre of the Haut-Médoc. Its 90 hectares are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Philippe Dourthe's three children have taken over the family estate and Pascal is now at the helm. Vinification is carried out with scrupulous care in a magnificent winery t fitted with the latest equipment. Château Maucaillou's wines have a fine colour, and are rich in tannins, developing a subtle, fruity aromatic power. Generous and full-bodied, they are long on the palate and have a good capacity to age.
Château Maucaillou is a food lover's wine and goes beautifully with lamb, game and ripe cheeses. It has aromas of dark fruit (Morello cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant) and mocha, with burnt notes. It is full and creamy in the mouth with ripe and supple tannins and considerable length.
