Information
This remarkable Burgundy domain was founded in 1957, when Charles Allexant, an itinerant distiller, acquired his first parcel of vines in Volnay. The vineyard has developed steadily over the years, while remaining committed to an environmentally friendly ethos, designed to optimise the natural expression of the terroir through sustainable viticulture. Today, it is Patrice who is in charge of the domain which he took over in 1981. He tends to the 12 hectares of vines in Merceuil, between Beaune and Meursault. Located in the Côtes de Nuits appellation, the vines benefit from ideal sun exposure and spur pruning to optimise yields. In the winery, grapes harvested at optimum ripeness undergo traditional vinification, culminating in a long ageing period on lees in new casks. The vineyard is a peaceful haven where authentic, tasty wines are carefully crafted.
Domaine Charles Allexant was founded in the late 1950s by a former distiller who bought vines in Volnay. The estate offers us a Puligny-Montrachet from the Premier Cru named Les Folatières. Thriving in an oceanic climate with semi-continental influences, the Chardonnay grape – the region’s noble variety – draws the nutrients it requires from soils consisting of limestone and marl. This is achieved through environmentally friendly growing methods based on the principles of sustainable agriculture.
Harvested at peak ripeness, the grapes undergo traditional vinification, ending with long ageing on their lees in wooden casks.
Tasting reveals a beautiful golden colour with notes of flowers, white fruit, butter, honey and fresh almonds. The palate is full and generous, yet structured by a remarkable minerality that lingers for some time.
