Information
In the 19th century, Giovanni Conterno joined his father on the family domaine in Monforte d'Alba (between Turin and the coast). This domaine was an export success from the very outset with its Barolo Reserve, which was only produced in the best years. In the late 1930s, Giovanni handed the baton to his son Giacomo, who was followed in turn by his sons Giovanni and Aldo. However, a few years later, and after some time spent in California, Aldo decided to set up his own domaine, Poderi Aldo Conterno, in 1969 (also in Monforte d'Alba). Today, the domaine spans 25 hectares in the heart of the Barolo wine region and produces renowned wines.
The cuvée is a perfect blend of Nebbiolo grapes from different prestigious vineyards, with 70% of the grapes coming from the Romirasco vineyards, 15% from Cicala and 15% from Colonnello. Harvested in mid-October, the grapes are carefully sorted to ensure a high-quality raw material. In the cellar, the grapes are macerated for a long time with the skins, naturally starting the fermentation process, which lasts around 30 days. After racking, the wine is carefully aged and refined in oak barrels for 33 months before bottling. Finally, the cuvée remains in the cellar nine months before being released for sale.
The ruby-red colour unveils a nose of great finesse, marked by aromas of black fruits accompanied by notes of undergrowth and cacao. On the palate, the tannins are perfectly integrated and merge elegantly with indulgent flavours of fruits, leading to a long, fresh finish.
