Information
Brugal was founded by Don Andrés Brugal Montaner in 1888 in Puerto Plata on the north-east coast of the Dominican Republic. Brugal, who was originally from Spain, spent time in Cuba before emigrating to the Dominican Republic, where he learnt how to make rum. Today’s very modern distillery, which is equipped with three pairs of column stills for distillation, was built in 1986 in San Pedro de Macoris, but the cellars remained in Puerto Plata. Since 2008, the company’s majority owner has been the Edrington group, which also owns Macallan and Highland Park. The role of Maestro Ronero, however, continues to be played Andrés Brugal’s descendants, Jassil and Gustavo. Alongside Bermudez and Barcelo, Brugal is one of the three Bs of Dominican rum.
Brugal Carta Dorada rum is produced in the Dominican Republic and aged for three years in oak casks. This bottle was imported to Italy by Velier.
