Information
Domaine de la Vougeraie, which is located in Vougeot, was created in 1999 by the Boisset family by merging the different vines belonging to the family. The vineyard now has 34 hectares spread over 67 plots and 27 appellations, two-thirds of the surface being in Côte de Nuits, the rest in Côte de Beaune. The vineyard heritage is of a high quality with parcels of Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyères, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne, and Les Damodes Bâtard-Montrachet. The vineyard is certified in organic farming. This domaine has risen to the best level and produces wines which combine concentration and finesse.
Located between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits in Premeaux-Prissey, the Pinot Noir vines face south and sink their roots into the rich limestone soil. Each plot of vines is treated to organic and biodynamic methods in the vineyard where no fertiliser or weedkiller is used so that the variety can show off its true personality. In the cellar, the grapes - 5% of which are left as whole bunches - are placed in vats with the help of gravity. After a pre-fermentation maceration lasting for five days, natural yeasts start the fermentation process, and the grapes are left to macerate for 18 days with gentle pumping over. To conclude, the grapes are pressed using a vertical press and the resulting wine is aged in oak barrels, of which 30% are new, for about 16 months.
The nose reveals elegant aromas of chocolate and red fruits, while on the palate, flavours of blackcurrant combine perfectly with the velvety texture which leads to a pronounced finish.
