Information
Glengyle is a Campbeltown distillery founded by William Mitchell in 1872. After being bought by the West Highlands Malt Distilleries group, it closed in 1925 following the crisis and only reopened in 2000 when it was bought by the Springbank team, who equipped it with stills from the former Ben Wyvis distillery. Distillation recommenced in 2004 and the first single malt was bottled in 2007. Interestingly, J&A Mitchell bought only the distillery and not the Glengyle brand, which is owned by Glen Scotia, leading to bottlings being released under the name Kilkerran.
The second batch of Kilkerran Heavily Peated, bottled in 2019. A blend of 55% malt matured in bourbon casks and 45% malt matured in sherry casks.
