Information
"Être sobre, c’est boire bon,” or “Being sober is drinking well". This is the estate’s motto, which you’ll find on the label. It perfectly summarises the hedonistic spirit of these wines, full, concentrated, fruity yet delicate and fine. The estate was founded in 1959 following the marriage of Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot in 1954. Vincent Geantet now works in tandem with his son, Fabien. The estate, based in Gevrey-Chambertin, covers 22 hectares of limestone and clay-limestone soils in villages, premier crus, Marsannay, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny appellations. The estate holds a sustainable agriculture label, 100% of the grapes are destemmed and fermentation is exclusively triggered by native yeasts. Ageing is conducted in Burgundy casks.
This estate is a safe bet in the Côte de Nuits. Vincent’s daughter, Émilie Geantet, is currently establishing a wine-trading business under her name, producing more robust wines than those of the estate.
This Gevrey-Chambertin takes its name from Edmond Geantet, who established the domain in 1954 after marrying Bernadette Pansiot. Today, it is his son, Vincent Geantet, and his grandson who produce this wine from the Pinot Noir grapes that they grow on marl and limestone soils and which benefit from the influence of the semi-continental climate.
The wine is aged in wooden barrels and can be stored in the cellar for about ten years. It has a ruby-red colour which develops lovely hints of garnet-red over time. Its aromas of red and black fruits slowly develop into hints of sweet spices and leather as well as smokey and woody notes. The dense wine is structured by lovely tannins, which are relatively firm and persistent. This wine will pair wonderfully with indulgent dishes such as game, meat in sauce or autumn vegetables. It is recommended to let the wine breathe a little before serving to boost the flavours.
