Information
Domaine Claude et Catherine Maréchal is located in the heart of the charming commune of Bligny-les-Beaune, nestling in the iconic Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The vineyard was established in 1981 by the winemaking couple Claude and Catherine Maréchal. The couple originally started the domain by leasing four hectares of vines. Today, they take pride in passionately cultivating more than 12 hectares of vines, including the region’s typical grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté. They treat each individual vine with the greatest care, respecting the soil and biodiversity so as to allow the personality of each vine to express itself fully. In the winery, vinification involves minimal intervention and sulphur is used in minute quantities. The domain’s ambition is to create authentic, aromatic wines perfectly reflecting the region’s exceptional terroir, thanks to unique, artisanal expertise.
The Pommard terroir has been critically acclaimed since the 19th century for its rich, delicate wines. To express the finest qualities of this region as authentically as possible, the domain cultivates its vines without using any chemical fertilisers or other inputs. Each plot of Pinot Noir benefits from meticulous, environmentally friendly viticulture based on the principles of organic farming. No sulphur is added during the vinification process following the entirely manual harvest. The cuvée is then aged in the purest Burgundy tradition, in wooden casks of several wines.
The bright ruddy colour reveals an intoxicating bouquet of intense red fruit aromas. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, this wine reveals spicy, animal flavours heightened by present tannins. The smoky, fresh mouthfeel offers great length, paying tribute to the exceptional terroir of Pommard.
