Information
The Château Cruzeau has a magnificent building from the 16th century. This is a modest-sized property of the commune of Saint-Emilion.
This splendid property of 7 hectares is managed with passion and fine detail. The soils here are rich in sandstone as well as some residual iron appreciated by the Merlot vines. This varietal takes up 80% of the vineyard, and the rest is Cabernet Franc. The former brings roundness, power and colour, whilst the latter carries especially fine aromas. The domain is run sustainably, and stopped the use of plant protection products in 2015. Once in the winery, the grapes are put in stainless steel vats. A seven-day maceration ensures that maximum colour and aroma are extracted from the grape skins. The wines are then matured for 12 to 18 months in French, oak casks (30% new wood). This wine has a ruby colour in its youth. Very fruity in character, this cuvée stands out for its lovely notes of redcurrant and blueberry. We recommend pairing it with a delicate wine such as slow-cooked lamb. The bottle can be aged for around 10 years.
