Information
Clos Saint-Patrice is masterfully run by the Jullian family and Samuel Montgermont. Internationally acclaimed as one of the most iconic vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the vineyard spans almost two hectares, including old Grenache and Mourvèdre vines. The vines growing on clay and sand soils are cultivated with the greatest respect for biodiversity. Each parcel receives specific care depending on its needs, to allow the personality of each one to shine through. It is this perfect balance between humans and nature that enables the production of high quality raw materials. In the winery, vinification involves very little intervention, and sulphur is added in minute quantities to allow the fruit to fully express all its aromas naturally. Clos Saint-Patrice produces fine, elegant and authentic wines that perfectly reflect its exceptional terroir.
The legendary Clos Saint Patrice lies on soil consisting of pebbles with brown and yellow sand. The Grenache and Mourvèdre vines draw all the nutrients they need from this soil. The grapes are harvested by hand once they have reached optimum ripeness. The grapes are then vinified with 80% whole bunches. Pre-fermentation maceration and alcoholic fermentation are exclusively conducted in concrete vats, to fully capture the fruit’s delicious aromas. The grape must infuse for approximately five weeks, and the pomace cap is regularly pumped over. Lastly, the wine is matured in concrete vats for 14 months before bottling.
The ruby-red colour reveals an intoxicating bouquet, where black cherry aromas mingle with hints of Asian spices. The powerful, flavoursome mouthfeel delicately leads to a fresh, persistent finish that will reveal its finest aromas after a few years’ cellaring.
