About the producer

The Depaz estate was founded in 1651 by Jacques Duparquet, one of the first governors of Martinique. It was destroyed in 1902 when Mount Pelée erupted, and then rebuilt in 1971 by Victor Depaz, who planted it with “blue” sugarcane, which was particularly well-suited to the volcanic soil and helps create the very aromatic rums for which the estate is today renowned. After Victor's death, his son André teamed up with Bardinet, who were already a client and known for producing the rums Negrita and Old Nick. Bardinet was bought by La Mariniquaise in 1993.

About the wine

An aged Depaz 1979 rhum agricole distilled in a column still from canes grown at the foot of Mount Pelée, a volcano in the north of Martinique. Few vintage Depaz rums exist from this period, although we also know of a 1984 with the same label.
