Information
Scotland, Lowlands. Distillery closed. Owner: Loch Lomond Group
Closed in 1994 and ravaged by fire in 2004, Littlemill's most prosperous years - compared to the period that followed - ran until the end of the 1990s.Despite the evident young age of the classic versions released by the distillery, ranging from 5 to 8 years, some vintages interspersed the 80s and 90s, including a 1964 and a 1975 vintage presented in a stocky, green bottle (1990s). These were accompanied by two very rare 30 year old versions released at the very start of the 1980s (distilled in the early 50s), including one limited to 87 decanters worldwide produced for the Italian importer F&G Bruino, with an ABV of 38.5%.
A Littlemill 19 year old distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2009, matured in first-fill bourbon casks. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by a group of friends with a particular passion for whisky. The club selects casks whose bottles are then only available to members. The name of the distillery is not mentioned on the label, but each distillery is given a number as the malt is bottled. The first cask selected by the SMWS, for example, was Glenfarclas, and it therefore uses the number 1. The second number refers to the number of bottlings from each distillery. The club was sold to Glenmorangie in 2004 and then to a group of investors in 2016. A limited edition of 187 bottles.
