Information
Created in 1838, the iconic brand first originated when James Chivas, the partner of an Aberdeen grocery store, began selling his first whisky blends. The boom in the production of grain whisky would enable the newly found Chivas Brothers company to release a huge number of successful blended whiskies in Europe and the United States. After being bought by Seagram - also the owner of the Strathisla distillery, which would become a base malt in the blends - and then by Pernod Ricard, the brand is today internationally renowned and offers a very wide range of whiskies, from entry-level bottlings to luxury whiskies.
This edition of Chivas, matured for 38 years, was named Stone of Destiny in reference to the stone once used for coronations in Scotland. King Edward I of England stole the stone in 1296 following his military campaign against Scotland and King John Balliol. He placed it under his throne as a symbol of his domination of Scotland, where it more or less remained until 1996. The stone is today kept at Edinburgh Castle and sent to Westminster only for coronations.
