Information
Domaine Tortochot is a family domain located in Gevrey. A lover of Burgundy wine, Gabriel Tortochot ardently defends the region, especially given his role as the president of Gevrey-Chambertin's viticultural union. He passed down this passion to his two daughters, Brigitte and Chantal. At the age of 35, Chantal decided to take over the family business. Having qualified as an enological technician, she now produces wines that reflect their terroir thanks to careful viticulture.
In 2014, Domaine Tortochot recovered the right to run two parcels of Morey-Saint-Denis classified as premier cru in the Clos des Ormes and Clos Baulet climats, amounting to less than half a hectare. The Pinot Noir grapes from these two terroirs, converted to organic farming like the rest of the estate, are blended in this cuvée. The hand-harvested grapes are carefully picked on the vines to ensure only perfectly ripe berries are selected. They are then fully destalked, lightly crushed, and cooled before a cold maceration lasting four to five days, followed by fermentation. Two daily punch downs are performed to encourage extraction. After pressing, the free-run and press juices are combined and aged in oak barrels, including 50% of new oak, for 15 to 18 months. Renaissance exudes charm with its aromas of dark fruits, tobacco, and vanilla. On the palate, the finely textured tannins lend an elegant, smooth character, making this wine a fine candidate for long-term cellaring.
