Information
Located on the Scottish island of Islay, the distillery behind the famous Port Askaig whisky was founded in 2009. The distillery takes its name from the first port on Islay, where the ferry calls. Spurred on by the strong demand for Scotch whisky, Sukhinder Singh, founder of Elixir Distillers, decided to develop a new brand, representative of the best malt whiskies from all over the island. The distillery offers three different ranges: Cask Strength, signifying that the spirit is distilled and then bottled directly, and the 17-and-25-year-old ranges. Over the past decade, the distillery has continued to change and develop with new products, including an 8-year-old whisky. Meanwhile, Elixir Distillers contributes its international market expertise, enabling the distillery to export to twenty different countries. The distillery is best known for its 100° proof cask strength Islay, whose name technically refers to its 57% alcohol content.
Port Askaig 17 Year Old is a single malt from the Isle of Islay bottled in 2016 whose exact origins are unknown, although the youngest editions are often thought to be from Caol Ila and the oldest from Bunnahabhain. The Single Malts of Scotland range was created in 2005 by Elixir Distillers (formerly Specialty Drinks), the independent bottler founded by The Whisky Exchange in 1999. The range features single casks and small batch bottlings. Elixir Distillers’’ other ranges include Elements of Islay and Port Askaig.
