Information
Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Gordon & MacPhail.
Independent & family-ownedUntil it reopened on 3 August 1998, activity at the Benromach distillery was characterized by a series of short periods of production followed by long periods of mothballing. This cycle ended in 1993 when the independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail bought the site and its small stock (the distillery ceased production on 24 March 1983). To celebrate the site's opening, an expression celebrating the distillery's 100 year anniversary was produced, the Benromach Centenary Bottling 1898-1998, limited to 3,500 bottles. It was the first in a long series, with the new owners releasing numerous new bottlings to make up for lost time.
A single cask Benromach (#55) distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2008, matured in a refill sherry hoghshead. A limited edition of 412 bottles for La Maison du Whisky, a whisky and spirits importer and distributor founded by Georges Bénitah in 1956.
