About the producer

This 1997 trading house has gained worldwide fame thanks to its wines from the best parcels of the vineyard of Burgundy following the purchase of the Volnay family property (the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or). It pays attention to the contracts he makes with respectful wine growers, and covers both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The biodynamic calendar is followed, and the élevage on fine lees lasts 12 to 16 months, without racking, and with a minimum of added sulphur.

About the wine

The Charmes-Chambertin appellation spreads over twelve hectares of reddish soil, rich in iron oxide studded with shingle on limestone bedrock. Thanks to close partnerships with several winegrowers, this is where Nicolas Potel gets his supply of Pinot Noir, grown with a great care to respect the soil, from. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are meticulously sorted then made into wine without additives and with as little intervention as possible. Throughout the process, the cuvée is tasted three times a day to keep an eye on the developing flavours. After being removed from the vats, the grapes are pressed very gently and then, the must is placed into barrels to mature on its lees for twelve to sixteen months without racking and with very little sulphur. All the steps are carried out according to the biodynamic calendar.
This creates a charming, concentrated wine with a nose that is perfumed with raspberries and blackcurrants underlined by hints of spices and undergrowth. The palate unites power and persistence in a voluptuous ensemble.
