Information
A distillery within a distillery, Mosstowie was produced in Miltonduff’‘s Lomond still from 1964 to 1981. The Lomond stills were originally installed to enable the then owner Hiram Walker to produce a wider variety of whisky for blends like Ballantine’‘s. The project was never much of a success and was abandoned 17 years later. No official bottlings of the Mosstowie single malt were ever released and only a handful of independent bottlers were lucky enough to bottle these highly prized (and very rare) bottlings.
A single cask Mosstowie (#1354) bourbon cask distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2014. This bottling was part of the Artist range, created by La Maison du Whisky in 2011. Every year, a team from La Maison du Whisky visits Edradour to select casks from various distilleries from the vaults of Signatory Vintage. These casks are bottled individually at cask strength, without chill filtration or colouring. The range is organized into five-year age brackets, such as Over 5 Year Old and Over 10 Year Old. The labels for the range are produced by a different artist every year. The labels for the fourth Artist range were designed by Albane Simon. A limited edition of 162 bottles.
