Information
Albert Bichot is an illustrious maison of Burgundy. The family settled in Burgundy in 1350 but it was only in the 19th century that it became interested in the vine and vineyards. In 1831, Bernard Bichot developed a trading house in his name. Since 1996, Alberic Bichot (6th generation) has been working to raise the quality of wines produced. He acquired many plots, meaning that the maison now has 100 hectares of vineyards. Here we find the Clos Frantin on the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine du Pavillon and the Domaine Adélie on the Chalonnaise coast as well as the Domaine Long Depaquit in Chablis. These wines are certified as organic. At the same time, the maison carries out its trading business by purchasing only carefully selected grapes. The wines are all vinified in Beaune under the leadership of the very talented Alain Serveaux.
This trading company turned entirely towards organic methods to produce exceptional Burgundy wines. This includes the superb Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice, a climat situated at the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin. Tasting this wine reveals delicate flavours of black and white pepper, soft spice, mint, gingerbread and earth. It is a pretty wine with an impressive and solid composition that will need to be kept for a few years for it to achieve its best. It would go perfectly with dishes that have a lot of character.
This wine trading company, founded in 1831, knew how to travel through the centuries and keep the company within the same family. One of founder’s descendants, Albéric Bichot, who came to the estate in 1996, produces the estate’s wine today. Since then, the company has found the spark it had years ago by taking care with its ageing process and the quality of its grapes as well as keeping quality consistent.
