About the producer

Situated in the heart of the Côte de Beaune and spread over three villages (Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton), this domain was bought in 1834 by Countess Chandon de Briailles who was related to the owners of the famous Champagne house Moët et Chandon.
It has been belonged to the same family ever since who have converted the entirety of it to biodynamic agriculture. The wines are aged in wood with the smallest amount of new wood. It is currently owned by the Count and Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolaÿ and their children. Since 2001, Claude and François have run the estate together. Claude is a trained oenologist and François works in the vineyards and manages the sales.
Th wines are crafted using natural methods with no sulphur being using on the vines and only homeopathic doses are used in the winemaking process depending on the vintage. Vinification is aided by gravity, and the skins are punched down daily, and the wine is aged in wood. The result? Dazzling, deep, complex wines that are completely delicate, refined and highly seductive with a silky palate. They faithfully represent the uniqueness of each terroir and vintage.

About the wine

Domaine Chandon de Briailles, situated in Pernand-Vergelesses, knows how to create excellence from the climats in the commune just like those of the neighbouring crus on the Corton mountain. The Pernand-Vergelesses wines are gorgeously graceful, fresh, balanced and composed. Managed by François de Nicolaÿ, the estate, driven by biodynamics, produces wines with the least possible input, from the vines to the cellar, where using sulphur is very limited. The estate produces wines on the razor’s edge of stability but amazingly purified. The estate’s wines are excellent and therefore deserve to be known. The Ile des Vergelesses climat is one of the most beautiful climats in the commune. Perfectly exposed, it produces ripe wines from these usually cold terroirs, allowing the wine to achieve a great balance, a superb finish as well as containing silky crunchy fruit. Flavourful, open, delicate and taut, this succulent and delicate Chardonnay creates the sensation of biting into fresh fruit. Being almost crystal clear, it will take some time to forget this wine.
