Information
The Rossignol-Trapet wine property was established through the alliance of two families, the Rossignols and the Trapets, who were both winemakers in Burgundy (the Rossignols at Volnay, since the 16th century and the Trapets at Gevrey-Chambertin since the 18th century). Nicolas and David Rossignol have been running the Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, situated at Gevrey-Chambertin, since 1990. They own vineyards in the renowned villages of Beaune, Savigny-les-Beaune and of course Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, they use traditional methods which are backed up by new technical and biological knowledge. David and Nicolas strive to maintain high standards in their vineyards to ensure a healthy and quality harvest each year. Since 2004 all the vines are cultivated using biodynamics.
This estate was founded in 1990 after Domaine Trapet was split into two between cousins. This created one estate owned by Jean-Louis Trapet and another owned by Rossignol-Trapet. Quickly, the emphasis was put on working on the vines. The vineyard started using biodynamic methods in 1997 and started converting the whole vineyard to these methods from 2004. Since then, the soil has never been treated again and it can finally breathe.
This Grand Cru, located at the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, is situated next to Chambertin due to the fact that it is an extension of the appellation in the direction of Morey-Saint-Denis. In other words, it is the first Grand Cru that you reach if you head south on the Route des Grands Crus. Despite having feeble and thin earth, this prestigious climat produces full-bodied and intense wines that have enjoyed time in the sun and are marked by a lively fruit bouquet, an amazing thickness that fills the mouth, shifting aromas and the first drop of wine to reach your palate is candid and delicate. The estate’s wines definitely appear among the most beautiful wines from the entire appellation.
