Information
Founded in 1900 in the heart of Siberia, in the Oblast (region) of Kemerovo, the Mariinsk distillery is named after its home town and has produced the prestigious Beluga vodka since 2002. It is located some 4,000 km from Moscow, on the route of the Trans-siberian railway in the Altai Mountains in order to benefit from the purity of the local water—the vodka’s most important ingredient—drawn from an artesian well sourced from 250 metres underground. Throughout the 20th century, Mariinsk supplied vodka to the whole of Russia.
To create Beluga, the distillery uses a malt spirit produced in the Itkul factory in Altai, a mountainous area bordered by China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. The spirit itself is made from buckwheat malt harvested in the Eurasian Steppe. This untouched setting and the purity of the wheat and water have enabled Beluga water to earn a reputation as a truly exceptional vodka.
