Information
The Warenghem distillery was founded in 1900 in Lannion by Léon Warenghem, originally to produce the plant liqueur Elix d’‘Armorique. In 1919, Henri Warenghem took over from his father and expanded the range to include other liqueurs. Gilles Leizour then took over the distillery in 1981 and focused production on regional spirits like chouchen. He was also responsible for distillation of France’‘s first whisky (a blend) in 1983 and its release in 1987 under the name WB (Whisky Breton). In 1993 he built a whisky distillery based on Scottish production methods. Its first single malt was released in 1998 under the name Armorik.
A single cask Armorik (#146) distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2016 to mark the 60th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky. In a pairing that should come as no surprise, it was finished for two years in a barrel previously containing chouchen, an alcoholic beverage from Brittany, where the distillery is based. A limited edition of 250 bottles.
