Information
The Blairmont plantation, named after its founder Lambert Blair, was founded on the West Bank of the River Berbice in the early 19th century. The first trace of distillation at Blairmont date back to 1862. The distillery closed in 1962 and it is not known what happened to its two-column Savalle still. Production of Blairmont nonetheless continued at Uitvlugt, which reproduced the style of the defunct distillery using its four-column Savalle still. After Uitvlugt closed in 1999, Diamond took over. In 1974, the Guyanese government nationalized the country’‘s distilleries, which become the property of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). Guyana’‘s last distilleries closed one after the other and only Diamond now remains. It is home to the famous wood stills of the former distilleries of Port Mourant, Versailles, Enmore and Uitvlugt.
A 15 year old Blairmont molasses-based rum distilled in 1991 in the Uitvlugt distillery’’s four-column Savalle still and bottled in 2006. After Blairmont closed in 1962, Uitvlugt reproduced its style ( mark). This bottling contains rum from seven casks selected by the Genoese independent bottler Velier in the period when Luca Gargano had access to the cellars of Demerara Distillers Limited thanks to his friendship with Yesu Persaud. These selections played a key role in building Velier’’s renown, alongside its incredible Caroni bottlings. Velier no longer has access to DDL’’s stocks and these rums are now some of the most sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts due to the unique flavours and concentration offered by their tropical ageing. A limited edition of 1,913 bottles.
