Information
The history of Naudin Ferrand dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when Claire Deroye convinced her husband Henri Naudin to purchase some vines in Burgundy. This passion passed from generation to generation, and in 1994 it was Claire Naudin took up the family estate. Today, the domain spans 22 hectares and respects responsible agriculture. This family domain has vineyards covering the Hautes Côtes, in the regional appellations of Hautes-Côtes de Beaune and Haute-Côtes de Nuits. Chardonnay is grown here for the white wines, and Pinot Noir for the reds. Gamay and Aligoté are also cultivated by the domain. According to Claire Naudin, viticulture is something you should live without fear of experimenting, for example with biodynamics. This approach has allowed her to create elegant and pure cuvées with much freshness and depth. They offer a lovely illustration of Burgundy's terroirs.
To create this Chardonnay, Domaine Naudin-Ferrand selected the most beautiful grapes from its domain. It does not use any chemical substances to make its wine so that it can simply highlight the quality of the terroir where the grapes came from. The vines are planted in a parcel in the En Daisez climat in the Magny-lès-Villers commune. The climat can be found at the top of the hill between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune.
Despite being aged in barrels (with 55% of them being new ones), the colour of this wine is rather pale. Its yellow colour flashes gold when it catches the light. The nose has an interesting complexity, citrus fruits lead the way on a pleasant mineral undercurrent. This all combines in a beautiful molten woody finish.
This lively, balanced wine could spend several years in the cellar.
