Information
La Closerie Saint Roc, situated not far from the villages of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol is owned by the Amoreau family (of Château Le Puy fame). Pascal Amoreau, his sister Valérie, and Harold Langlais now run the domain. It has a 16-hectare vineyard planted with 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The domain works biodynamically with natural vinifications; very little sulphur is added, there are no additives, and the wine is not fined or filtered. As is the case at Château Le Puy, great attention is paid to the ecosystem, with other kinds of fruit tree and plants next to the vines. Whilst this is a relatively recent estate, it has attracted fans from its very first vintage, notably with its presence at some of the finest gastronomic tables. Closerie Saint Roc's wines stand out for their finesse, their balance of freshness and tannin, and an easy-drinking ensemble. This is a domain that will gain in notoriety, no doubt!
La Closerie Saint Roc is a cuvée produced biodynamically and naturally. The grapes are harvested by hand and there is a full destemming process. The juice ferments spontaneously (with wild yeasts) and there is no added sulphur. The wine is then matured in foudre containers for 24 months. It is not fined or filtered. In the glass, this is a delicate and fresh wine with lovely minerality and a pure profile. It has a bright fruit and perfectly integrated tannins. A superb, natural Bordeaux crafted by the Amoreau family, owners of the famous Château Le Puy.
