Information
When she took over from her father in 1988, as she was only 18, Anne Gros was a young energetic woman, more interested in books than in becoming a winemaker! Nevertheless, she took on alone the work in the vines and was responsible for vinification and managing the business. In 1990 she bottled all of the harvest and connoisseurs around the world discovered the strength, finesse, delicateness and precision of her wines. The domain was officially established in 1995. Within ten years, she made it into one of the best and most renowned domains from the Côte de Nuits. Besides Clos Vougeot, Vosne Romanée and Chambolle Musigny, other appellations from new plots were added to the range (Hautes Côtes de Nuits et Bourgogne for example).
Since she took up the domain, Anne Gros has made it into one of the best in the Côte de Nuits. This lovely range is enriched by the inclusion of a cuvée that puts Chardonnay, Burgundy’s noble varietal, in the best light. Planted in 1994, these vines are planted in the lieu-dit Les Pasquiers. To begin with it was made in only small quantities but it quickly found success. Even though it is planted in a terroir suited to red grapes, these Chardonnay vines thrive in the clay-rich soil of Vosne-Romanée. To craft the cuvée there is first a cold pressing before fermentation in steel vats then 500-litre oak casks (30% new wood) for several weeks. This is a wine carried by notes of honey, flowers, and white fruits (white peach, apple, pear). We enjoy its balance of vivacity and body, as well as its persistence. The domain recommends food and wine pairings like meat in sauce, dumplings, or truffle-based specialities.
