Information
Giacomo Conterno is one of the most highly reputed domaines in Italy and Roberto Conterno is now at the helm of this vineyard established in the 1920s. The wine is produced organically, grapes are trodden by foot, indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, pumping over is carried out frequently, and wines are aged in old barrels to give the wine character without overflavouring it. These wines are crafted for cellaring.
This Barolo is a reflection of the classic and highly-reputed work of Azienda Giacomo Conterno. To make it, the domain treats their Nebbiolo grapes with the utmost care thanks to organic farming methods and very strict sorting during the harvest. Indigenous yeasts are used to set off alcoholic fermentation. The domain practices many instances of punching down to extract maximum texture, favour, and colour. The wine is then matured in old foudre containers to avoid becoming too marked by the character of new wood. This cuvée has undeniably long ageing potential and a beautiful garnet hue in the glass. Its deep and complex aromatic bouquet is characterised by notes of flowers and dried herbs, red and black fruits, and balsamic hints. It is full-bodied on the palate, structured by fine tannins and led by a frank acidity. We recommend serving this cuvée with a mushroom dish or even a black forest gâteau!
