Information
The Barge family’s history of winegrowing dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century. At that time, Jules Barge and his wife Joséphine focused on developing the estate’s vines and stopped working for other people. Together, they bottled their first Côte-Rôtie wine in 1929. The family business was an immediate success, as in the 1950s it was one of very few estates in Côte-Rôtie. In 1970, the couple retired, leaving Pierre Barge and his brother André to take over the reins of the family business. The brothers expanded the estate considerably, both in terms of surface area and the number of sales of their cuvées. The first winery dedicated exclusively to vinification and ageing was built in 1981. A new era began in 2016, when the brothers stopped using sulphur in the production of their white wines. Julien Barge has been cultivating the estate’s eight hectares of vines since 2018, one of the first steps he took was to banish all weedkillers and specialist treatments.
