Information
Domain Lucien Crochet is a family domain that has been handed down from generation to generation. Lucien Crochet combined his father's domain with that of his wife's father, Lucien Picard, who was in fact one of the first in the Sancerre region to bottle his own wines. The vineyard spans 38 hectares: 29 of Sauvignon and 9 of Pinot Noir. One of the appellation's flagship names.
Domain Lucien Crochet owns some of the finest terroirs in Sancerre, terroirs that produce wines of mind-blowing finesse. This cuvée is produced from a blend of parcels with various exposure to the sun (south, south-east, south-west). The Sauvignon Blanc vines, which are farmed using environmentally-friendly methods (with organic improvements since 1989), grow on Oxfordian limestone known as ‘caillottes’, which roughly translates as ‘small pebbles’. The soils are therefore not very deep and well-drained. After manual harvests and pressing of whole bunches, the juice is left to settle at cold temperatures for 36 hours. Fermentation lasts 30 days in vats (10% of the harvest in oak barrels), followed by 10 months of élevage on lees. The wine has a pale yellow colour. On the nose, you’ll find aromas of white fruits, peach, pear and stone. The palate offers a lovely balance between tension and roundness, in addition to a beautiful expression of the limestone terroir, mineral with aromas of white fruits. This cuvée calls for subtle food pairings with delicate dishes.
