Information
Le Mas des Caprices was founded in 2005 thanks to the ardent desire of Pierre and Mireille Mann, then restaurateurs in Alsace, to become wine makers. They set their hearts on a 15-hectare domain in the maritime area of the Fitou appellation. Planting grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache (Noir, Blanc and Grise), Mourvèdre and Macabeu, they crafted their first vintage in 2009 after three years spent converting to organics. Their goal is to make sharing wines that are easy to drink int heir youth alongside ambitious cuvées that will improve with age. For such a range, they use numerous different containers to mature their wines, including casks, half-barrels and quarter-muids. On an increasingly-demanding path in terms of quality and the environment, the domain was certified biodynamic in 2014.
The Anthocyane cuvée is from one of the domain’s finest parcels situated on a chalky plateau. This wine is a blend of mainly Mourvèdre with Carignan and Grenache. Note that the cuvée’s name comes from the natural pigments present in the black grape that gives the wine its colour. Since 2014, the vines have been grown biodynamically, with the yields kept low. The wine is matured for 16 months in barrels and demi-muids, receiving all the attention a fine wine deserves. It has an intense, crimson colour that leads well into its beautiful texture. On the nose, it is an explosion of black fruits and spices that we then find straight away on the palate. The finesse of this cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted veal. In terms of ageing, you can count on a maturation of around 15 years.
