Information
Château Kirwan's vines still grow on exactly the same plots as when the vineyard was classified at the top of the Médoc third crus classés in 1855. The Schÿler family who manage the property have maintained their links with Denmark. The Schröders and the Schÿlers are Denmark's consuls in Bordeaux. The vineyard consists of a 35 hectare single block of vines, and enjoys an excellent aspect, with a high point of 20 metres on the Cantenac plateau. The vines planted include a significant proportion of Petit Verdot (10%).
This is the second of Château Kirwan’s wine, which came into being in 1933. Made with the same care as its ancestor, it comes from younger vines whose grapes were harvested by hand. The vinification takes place in thermoregulated vats to preserve the delicate berries and the wine was matured in used oak barrels for a year. All of this means the resulting wine is fruity, supple and juicy. Made to be aged for over ten years, it will be superb with rare red meat.
