Information
One of very few single estate appelations, Château-Grillet is one of the most famous wines to come out of France. Entirely surrounded by the Condrieu appellation, the terraced vineyard at Château-Grillet forms a south facing circle. The granite rich soil is planted exclusively with Viognier yet this wine is distinguished from Condrieu. Owned by the Neyret-Gachet family since 1830, Château Grillet was bought by Artémis group (the Pinault family) in 2011 and is managed by Frédéric Engeger, who also manages Château Latour and Domaine Eugénie (formerly Domain Engel) in Burgundy. The domain benefits from a highly competent technical team handpicked by agricultural engineer and oenologue Pénélope Godefroy run by oenologue Alessandro Noli. This team carry out meticulous work both in the vineyard and in the winery that respects the terroir and the grape variety. Evrything happens on a parcel by parcel basis and the maturation period lasts 18 months in French oak barrels (20% new). The flagship cuvée is named Château Grillet while the second wine is called Pontcin.
Crafted by an emblematic Rhône domain, this Condrieu contains hints of gold and has an aromatic bouquet marked by notes of white fruits, stone fruits, and flowers. Made to be aged, it is distinguished by its supple texture, superb acidity and lively minerality. This bottle is a good alternative to the sweet wines often served during the festive period with foie gras.
