Information
This Champagne house was established in Bisseuil in 2000 by Xavier Gonet and his wife Julie Medeville. It comprises 12 hectares of vines dispersed across 8 villages. It has shot to fame and its star is still rising. Renowned for the quality of its blends and excellent vinification (without malolactic fermentation), it produces wines which subtly combine power with finesse. The secret of their success is undoubtedly barrel fermentation.
The Gonet-Medeville family are descendants of two great winemaking families; one from the Champagne region, and the other from Sauternes (Château Gilette). Each of their wines is stamped with the best of both these traditions – and this cuvée is no exception. Produced in the chalky soil of the communes of Bisseuil, Trépail, Mareuil-Sur-Aÿ and Le Mesnil-sur-Ogier, it is matured sur lattes for 24 months, which adds complexity, fullness and salinity to this superb Champagne. Its fresh bouquet (white flowers, citrus) hints at a superbly vinous, dense, complex, persistent palate with a saline touch – the mark of a truly great Champagne.
