Information
Located in Marsala, to the West of Sicily, Nino Barraco created his domain in 2004, when with his wife Angela, he took over the 7 hectares from his father, as well as other vines from Angela’s family. He then expanded the domain: it is now made up of 10 hectares. The domain grows exclusively local varieties: Grillo, Catarratto, Zibibbo for the white wines and Nero d’Avola and Pignatello for the reds. The vines are carefully cultivated, and in the winery, fermentations are spontaneous with only ambient yeasts and very few sulphites. The domain follows organic principles, though it doesn’t have certification. The traditional, authentic production of these wines has raised this domain to among the finest in Sicily.
This cuvée, produced from a 1.5 hectare parcel of 40 to 80-year-old vines, is aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels and for a month in a stainless steel vat. It has distinctive almond, hazelnut, spice and citrus aromas and lingers freshly on the palate. This wine makes an equally good pairing with fish or poultry.
