Information
Alvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez Palacios established this highly reputed Spanish domaine. Alvaro Palacios is one of the most renowned winegrowers in th Iberian peninsula. In 1998, the two men fell in love with an almost inaccessible, low-yielding vineyard high up in an isolated mountain village. Motivated by a philosophy akin to the Burgundy ethos, it produces single varietals. The range includes “grands crus” which are made from the most inaccessible parcels of vines.
This pure Mencia is both powerful and silky. Its velvety palate exudes fruity (red fruits), floral, empyreumatic and mineral notes and this same mineral quality enhances its texture, depth and intensity. The wine is made with grapes from 60 to 90-year-old vines and fermented in small wooden vats. After a 40 day maceration, it is matured in new French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
