Information
At the foot of Sancerre hill, in Sury-En-Vaux lies Domaine Vincent Gaudry. Family run for several generations, Vincent Gaudry started working his father's 9 hectares of vines at the tender age of 16. Three years later, in 1993, Vincent decided to start the transition to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Today, the domain holds Demeter certification (organically certified since 2002 and biodynamically certified since 2006). The vineyard now spans 11 hectares and is laid out mostly to Sauvignon Blanc, although there is some Pinot Noir. For Vincent, the vineyard is truly his garden. The soil is ploughed and fertilised with the help of compost and various biodynamic preparations such as plant-based concoctions and Bordeaux mixture. In his quest for an authentic wine that is true to its terroir, the vinification process is also a ‘hands off' affair. We foresee a bright future for the elegant wines of Vincent Gaudry: they are beautifully balanced with wonderful energy, tension and minerality.
Located in Sury En Vaux, at the foot of the Sancerre hill, Domaine Vincent Gaudry has been a family-run concern for several generations. In 1991, aged just 16, Vincent Gaudry joined his father's domain, which then covered 9 hectares and was farmed using conventional methods. In 1993, Vincent took the decision to begin the gradual adoption of organic and biodynamic methods, step by step. Today, the domain is DEMETER-certified (organic certification obtained in 2002 and biodynamics in 2006). The vineyard features 11 hectares of Sauvignon, with the addition of a little Pinot Noir. Vincent tends his land with passion and love, as if it was his own garden. The soil is ploughed and fertilised with compost where necessary; plant decoctions, a range of biodynamic preparations and Bordeaux mixture are also used. In the cellars, too, vinification is as unobtrusive as possible, with the aim of producing honest, authentic wines. In the glass, they are refined, elegant wines with tension, energy and minerality, along with flawless balance. A future great of this appellation.
This cuvée is produced from a blend of three different terroirs (flint, caillotte pebbles, limestone-clay), and is matured on fine less for 8-10 months. The bouquet delivers a certain minerality, with smoky notes, while the palate is generous, fruity, tart, generous and taut, ending with a subtly bitter finish.
