Information
At the foot of Sancerre hill, in Sury-En-Vaux lies Domaine Vincent Gaudry. Family run for several generations, Vincent Gaudry started working his father's 9 hectares of vines at the tender age of 16. Three years later, in 1993, Vincent decided to start the transition to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Today, the domain holds Demeter certification (organically certified since 2002 and biodynamically certified since 2006). The vineyard now spans 11 hectares and is laid out mostly to Sauvignon Blanc, although there is some Pinot Noir. For Vincent, the vineyard is truly his garden. The soil is ploughed and fertilised with the help of compost and various biodynamic preparations such as plant-based concoctions and Bordeaux mixture. In his quest for an authentic wine that is true to its terroir, the vinification process is also a ‘hands off' affair. We foresee a bright future for the elegant wines of Vincent Gaudry: they are beautifully balanced with wonderful energy, tension and minerality.
Located in Sury En Vaux, at the foot of the hill of Sancerre, Domaine Vincent Gaudry has been a family domain for several generations. In 1991, when he was only 16, Vincent Gaudry joined his father's estate, which then extended over nine hectares and was farmed conventionally. Vincent Gaudry made the decision, from 1993, to progressively adopt organic and biodynamic methods, step by step. Today, the domain is DEMETER certified (AB, organic agriculture, certification obtained in 2002 and biodynamic in 2006). The vineyard extends over 11 hectares of Sauvignon, supplemented with a little Pinot Noir. And the passionate wine grower works it lovingly, like a garden. Soils are ploughed and fertilised with compost when needed, with also plant infusions, various biodynamic preparations and bouillie bordelaise (Bordeaux mixture). In the cellar also, there is little intervention in the actual wine making, the goal being to produce sincere and authentic cuvées. In the glass, we find fine elegant, wines, offering up tension, energy and minerality, and impeccable balance. A great future of the appellation. On the nose, this cuvée offers up aromas of citrus and white fruit and gunflint. The palate is tense, mineral, fruity and ends with a long, salivating finish.
