Information
In 1960 Gaston Richaud married and his wife inherited 12 hectares. He swapped his trade as a cabinet maker for winegrowing and 14 years later, his son Marcel took over at the tender age of 17. Marcel parted company with the cooperative he and his father supplied grapes to and in 1987 he took over a very fine 3-hectare single vineyard, l'Ebrescade. This is when people began to notice him. Marcel Richaud is both passionate and meticulous. He strives constantly to come up with new ways to cultivate the land, prune the vines and to make and mature the wine. The Cairanne appellation has him to thank for its full cru status, granted in 2015. His son Thomas and daughter Claire have gradually taken over the reins of the business and were recently joined by Edith.
The wines are produced following a natural and no-intervention approach and become more refined by the vintage. This is one name in the region you don't want to miss.
One thing is certain: Marcel Richaud takes care of microbial life while working his soil. His winemaking approach is a natural one. Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier are vinified in 600-litre barrels and concrete vats. Elevage is also conducted in concrete vats. The colour is golden and exudes a fragrance of white flowers, stone fruits and citrus fruits. The mouth is expressive and fresh, revealing an indulgent velvetiness coupled with fruity notes. An attractive cuvée to be drunk while still young with a ravioli gratin.
