Information
Terra Vecchia, literally “Ancient Lands” in Corsican, is located on a terroir that was converted to viticulture over 2000 years ago. President of the Corsican producers' cooperative, “L'Union des Vignerons de l'Ile de Beauté” since 2006, Jean-François Renucci is one of this island's most well-respected winemakers. In 2011 he took over the Clos Poggiale vineyard (formerly “Terra Vecchia”) which produces this cuvée. His domaine is mostly situated within the Calvi appellation and continues to grow, soon covering 30 hectares. The vines are relatively young but winegrowing is masterful, making lauded wines which are delicious from their youth. The domain is planted with Nielluciu, Sciaccarellu and Vermentinu, all local grapes. The domain began conversion to organics in 2015, gaining certification in 2018.
Albaria is produced from a meticulous selection of parcels. It is domain Terra Vecchia’s flagship wine and produced from 100% Vermentinu harvested by hand and carefully selected. After alcoholic fermentation in barrels and an élevage for 4-6 months in French oak barrels, the wine is bottled with neither fining nor filtering. The nose is complex and oscillates between aromas of ripe white fruits, flowers and honey. The mouth is charming, combining finesse and power.
