Information
It was the great-grandfather of the current wine grower Stéphane Magnien who founded the family domaine. The small (4.5 hectares) vineyard is located in the heart of the village of Morey Saint Denis. For four generations, the vines have been carefully worked, with ploughing and without any weed control, the aim being to maximise the expression of terroirs. The élevage lasts 14 to 24 months in oak barrels and the wines are neither glued nor filtered. Stéphane Magnien’s wines are very classical, refined and delicate.
Of Morey's five Grand Crus, this is the one selected to give its name to the village. It is one of the most subtle Côte de Nuits wines due to its sub-soil of limestone remains and "rotten rocks" (roches pourries). Stéphane Magnien's talent is evident in the length of this Clos-Saint-Denis and its vast array of flavours.
