Information
The estate can trace its history back to the mediaeval era, as it was fortified by the Florentines in 1204. It still bears the traces of these fortifications, notably in the ageing cellar. San Giusto a Retennano passed into the hands of the Martini di Cigala family by marriage in 1914. Today, it is managed by their descendants and their partners – Anna, Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesco, Alessandro and Luca. They have all played their part in achieving organic certification for the domaine.
The domain's Chianti Classico, in its “Riserva Le Baroncole” version, is truly a cellaring. It was matured in French oak barrels for 16 to 20 months depending on the vintage. The Sangiovese lends nice structure; this wine will be even more elegant after a few more years of aging.
