Information
This domaine owned by the descendants of the Marqués de Riscal has always been a trailblazing business and a flagship brand in the Spanish winegrowing and production market. In 1858, it was the first Rioja bodega to make wine using Bordeaux methods. Today, its wines are exported worldwide to over 70 countries. It epitomises the excellence of Rioja and also produces fine white Rueda appellation wines in the south of the province of Valladolid.
Riscal’s “Gran Reserva” is produced from vines that are more than 30 years old. It is made predominantly with Tempranillo but the local variety, Graciano, and some Mazuelo (Carignan) also feature. This top-class Spanish wine has been barrel-matured for at least two and a half years and then aged in the bottle for three more years before release. The result is a structured wine, with well rounded tannins, a persistent finish, and excellent ageing potential.
