Information
In 1999, Silvio Massena returned from New York to embark on a new career. Accompanied by his wife Catalina and his son, he took over the family farm south of Florence in the Chianti Classico appellation. The property spans 49 hectares, 11.5 of which are planted with mostly Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vines. Biodynamic agriculture is practised and the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts. Some wines are even aged in amphorae.
Vigna d'Alceo is a cuvée which expresses the typical character of its terroir to perfection. It has been matured for between 12 and 15 months in oak barrels. It produces a bouquet of red and black berry aromas with smoky tobacco notes. The palate is juicy, full bodied and elegant, with dense substance and a great tannic structure.
